BOHM - I think the "new light" is "we don't know," but the original no-rain myth persists in most witnesses' minds.

This is a really good thread.
My understanding (from my Intro to Physical Geology course) is that the dating of ice cores is achieved by counting layers which represent the change in seasons -- not unlike counting rings in a tree gives you the age of the tree. Has absolutely nothing to do with radiocarbon dating.
So, yes, that must have been tricky for Jehovah: no rain/precipitation until 4000 years ago; then lay down what looks exactly like 400K years of snowfall (including seasonal differences) in less than a year.
He just loves to test our faith!

Why are they even going here? Gay marriage and parenting is EXTREMELY rare. It is likely your school-age child will NEVER meet a classmate with two moms or dads.
So why do they produce this shit? Why is this issue so fucking important they have to make a cartoon?
Because they don't have an original thought of their own and are following right along with all of the religious Right propaganda bullshit.
What a bunch of assholes.

Funny. . . .
So I haven't stepped foot in a hall in about a year and a half or so now, but I still get reports from my wife who still attends (drives her elderly mother -- very nice of her).
Anyway, tonight she comes home and says, "We had Local Needs tonight. What do you think it was about?"
So I put on my old Elder Hat, did a quick mental review of all my wife's observations over the past six months and said "Comments at meetings."
My wife said, "You're good!"
That's exactly what it was about. Some of the publishers have been using commenting as their own personal soapbox regarding what they feel are injustices in the congregation. Honestly, this congregation isn't half bad --- these people giving the comments are literally nuts.
But that's what you get when you're a cult.

Is Larry Graham an Elder?
by ShirleyW ini think he is, but i"m not too sure.
just wondering because looking at that purple pimp outfit with hat that he wore to prince's memorial, i wonder if he ever gave a talk wearing the same outfit, when i've read here that some brothers were talked to for wearing a pastel colored shirt while giving a talk..

This must have been about 10-15 or so years ago. . . .
Friends of ours from NJ moved out to Minnesota and their new hall at the time was Prince's hall (this was just around (maybe slightly before) the time he started in the cult).
From what I recall, they said Larry Graham was a MS and -- according to these folks -- a really nice, down to earth guy.
Prince, however, was weird.
Again according to them, he would come into the meeting just as it started and sit down right in the front row with a small entourage. After the meeting, he did not mingle with the congregation, but talked only to Graham and a few select bros. He would then quickly leave without making any eye contact with the rest of publishers.

The Jehovah’s Witness bagged themselves a Big One when they got Professor Raj Kalaria, to speak about his belief
by Watchtower-Free inuk scientist helps christian cult to promote creationism.
the jehovah’s witness bagged themselves a big one when they got professor raj kalaria, above, to speak about his belief in creationism in a new video posted online by the cult.. keralia is currently a deputy director of the newcastle centre for brain ageing and vitality, newcastle, and a professor of neuropathology at newcastle university, uk.. when ex-jehovah’s witness lloyd evans, who runs jwsurvey, discovered that an april 2016 jw broadcasting episode featured keralia, he decided to:.
reach out to newcastle university to find out whether it endorses the academic’s stance on evolution, and found myself in a rather frustrating email exchange with helen rae, the media relations manager at the university’s faculty of medical sciences .. after much to-ing and fro-ing, an official statement was finally forthcoming ….

Interesting. . .
At Lehigh University, PA (not to far from where I live) they have an full page disclaimer regarding Micahel Behe (ID professor who the cult and other creationists quote a lot).

Much stronger statement than the Newcastle U response.

Evolution is a Fact #34 - Hiccups and Tadpoles
by cofty inhiccups are a weird phenomena.
they are a combination of two involuntary actions - firstly a rapid inhalation of breath followed 35 milliseconds later by the glottis at the back of the throat suddenly closing off our airway.. our normal breathing is controlled by a "central pattern generator" in a small region of the brain stem close to the boundary with the spinal cord.
a signal is sent along the vagus and phrenic nerves resulting in a rhythmic contraction of muscles in chest, diaphragm and throat.. these nerves branch off right at the top of the spinal cord and follow a convoluted path through the chest cavity.

Wait a second. . . .
I thought the origin of hiccups was that Jehovah smote everyone working on the Tower of Babel with them. . ..
